Apples and Oranges (or a comparison of daughters)

Olive is boisterous but sensitive, thoughtful but defiant, outgoing but temperamental, artsy, musical, left-footed, right-brained, funny, sweet, and stubborn.

Tillie is quiet but determined, studied but open, mellow but sensitive, funny, sweet, & stubborn.

So basically Olive is Geoffrey and Tillie is me, and we all add up to one great family.

permalink Real food! Tillie was way into it. I’m not surprised, since for the past month she’s been staring us down while we eat. While exciting, it definitely adds another layer of complexity to our already jam packed daily routine.

permalink First trip to the ER. Yesterday Olive fell backwards off of a chair in our living room and hit the back of her head on a white ceramic planter. She ended up with a gash about 1/4 of an inch long. I stopped the bleeding with a bit of pressure but quickly realized she was going to need stitches. Called Geoff at work and off I went with the girls to the nearest hospital. Thankfully they fast track kids and head wounds and kids with head wounds so we were seen within about 20 minutes (and after a potty trip). The doc informed me that they don’t do stitches on the head so she would need staples. Ick. After 20 minutes of a topical numbing ointment applied by cotton swab & headband (and much cajoling by me to actually keep the headband ON her head - many lollipops were promised), the doc appeared with the staple gun (double ick) and by the powers of an iPhone and YouTube cat videos, the doc gave her two staples without ANY tears. In fact, I don’t think Olive even noticed. It was crazy. She cried more when she realized I didn’t actually have any of the promised lollipops with me.
So all is fine. This morning at breakfast she reached back and felt the staples and asked me what they were; I told her she had a booboo and not to touch it and that was that. We get the staples removed next Monday and hopefully don’t have to visit the ER again anytime soon. With my emetophobia, it is NOT a good scene.

Olive has decided that You Are My Sunshine is her favorite tune and sang it about 20 times this morning. I finally decided to get it on video. Enjoy!

Speedy

I told Olive to hurry up today, like “Speedy Gonzalez”. Her response? “Yes, I’m going to hurry like Speedy Gonz-Olive”. I have a feeling this nickname is going to stick.
